Can You Get Stuck in Hypnosis?

Question:

Is it common for people to become stuck in a trance when being hypnotized by professional hypnotists?

Answer:

Not only is this not common, it’s actually impossible for it to happen.

Hypnosis in one form or another has been done for thousands of years, and in all that time, with all those millions, if not billions, of people, never once has anybody got stuck in a trance. This idea of being ‘stuck’ likely comes from entertainment depictions of hypnosis, where people appear to lose control. Real hypnotherapy, however, is quite different: clients remain fully aware and can stop or ‘wake up’ at any time. The worst that can happen if somebody is put into trance and then left is that they will just fall asleep and then wake up later quite normally. The post-hypnotic suggestions will remain long after the trance, but as for getting ‘stuck’ in trance, don’t worry, you are perfectly safe. It is not going to happen.

Rest assured, hypnosis is both safe and temporary. You are always in control.
