Question:
Hypnosis to remove fear of fighting?
Hi, so I’ve been doing hypnosis to others for a while but personally I struggle with being able to remove my fear of MMA fighting (competition). I’m able to do perfectly well in sparring when I know my opponent won’t hurt me but I get scared of getting hurt in competitive matches. Any hypnosis resource for it that you can recommend? Previously I’ve tried to fix this with self hypnosis but it isn’t working.
Answer:
From your description, comfortable in sparring, but anxious in competition, it sounds like performance anxiety might be at play more than the fear of injury itself.. I will hold my hands up and admit I may be misinterpreting purely down to the fact my main speciality is performance anxiety though.
Assuming this is the core issue, you should have nothing to worry about, hypnotherapy is fantastic for this. Many top names in sport are open about them having hypnotherapy to up their game regarding this and I have no doubt that there are many, many more who receive the benefits without talking about it publicly. I would strongly suggest that instead of trying to eradicate competition nerves, you instead work with a well-trained professional to change them into something you can use and draw from to give you even more of an edge. Use the feeling to push you forward rather than hold you back.
You don’t need to get rid of the nerves, you need to retrain them. With the right hypnotic work, they become fuel, not friction.
