Can Technology Be Used to Hypnotise Large Groups of People?

Question:

Is there any technology that can induce hypnosis in large groups of people?

Answer:

This really comes down to how you define the two words ‘technology’ and ‘hypnosis’.

By hypnosis do you mean in a full hypnotic state as traditionally meant by hypnotists (Traditionally, this involves a deep state of focused awareness, relaxation, and heightened suggestibility), or do you simply mean convincing people of something (This often leverages psychological principles to shape beliefs and behaviours in a way similar to, but not synonymous with, hypnosis.)? Both can be done to large groups, but it’s hard to discuss specifics without knowing what is being asked. This bleeds over into technology, if you are just asking about influencing people about something rather than full hypnosis, both social media and traditional media do this day in, day out. But that also raises the question of whether you consider FaceBook or a daily print newspaper technology? If you are asking about a full hypnotic state, do you consider the human voice and mind a technology? I have personally hypnotised large groups with nothing more than my voice. What about Zoom and the like? If that group of people I just mentioned were hypnotised virtually over zoom (but still just with my voice) would that count as ‘with technology’?

So, generally yes, but for a more specific answer, you’ll need to ask a more specific question.
