What Is Self-Hypnosis and How Is It Used?

Question:

What’s self hypnosis and how is it used ( applications of it ) . I’m new in this field.

Answer:

The glib answer is “All hypnosis is self-hypnosis” (something most of us have had drummed into us when we train). In reality it’s just hypnosis you do to yourself, by yourself. The hypnosis most people know of is hetero-hypnosis, where a hypnotist and hypnotee are both involved (normally just one of each, but by no means limited to to that), where the hypnotist guides the hypnotee through the process. It’s not mind control like you see in movies and on TV shows, it’s teamwork, a dance if you like, the hypnotist leads, and the hypnotee can either follow or do something completely different.

In self-hypnosis you play the part of both hypnotists and hypnotee yourself. If you know what you are doing it can be just as effective as hetero-hypnosis, but there are many ‘rookie’ mistakes you can make if you don’t. That’s not to say it’s useless if you are new to it, just progress may be slower than expected. It’s well worth spending the time and effort learning. It will serve you well.
