Why Won’t My Eyes Stay Closed During Hypnosis?

Question:

Hey. I am sort of new to the whole trance and hypnosis thing. Something weird happened- and it could just be a me thing, however I thought that I would ask the hypnosis experts anyways.

For some reason, when I went in to (what I assume to be) the trance, my right eye twitched open. Fair. Just close it, right? Wrong. It was barely open, just ever so slightly to the point where everything is blurry and your eyelashes are in front of your eye. But I just could not close it. It almost distracted me from the trance, and it is just really confusing me?? Does this have anything to do with the hypnosis, or is this just a me thing??

Answer:

It sounds like this may have been from a generic recording found online rather than a live session with a trained professional. If the latter, it should have been covered in either the pre-talk or the debrief at the end of the session.
The thing to remember is: Hypnosis is a state of mind, not a state of eyelids. In hypnosis, your eyes can be open, closed, alternating between the two, or pretty much doing anything else, it doesn’t matter. What is important is what’s going on in the grey matter behind the eyes.
Although hypnosis is mental, it’s often accompanied by the physical, odd sensations, twitches, increased lacrimation of the eyes (watery eyes) or subtle colour changes in the skin are just a few that are not at all uncommon when entering a hypnotic state. None of this is anything to worry about. Different people react differently, and our bodies do different things.

Don’t fight the sensation of your eye not being fully open or closed, just note it, then let the sensation drift over you and return your attention to the hypnosis.
